South Carolina voters do not separately elect a Lieutenant Governor. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor run together as a joint ticket.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Alan Wilson selected Mike Reichenbach as his running mate, while Democratic nominee Jermaine Johnson selected Sam Skardon.

REPUBLICAN — Mike Reichenbach

  • Background: State senator and businessman with private-sector management experience.
  • Government Spending: Emphasizes audits, spending reductions, accountability and eliminating waste.
  • Business and Taxes: Supports a pro-business, lower-tax approach intended to encourage entrepreneurship.
  • Education: Supports school choice.
  • Social Issues: Pro-life, strongly supportive of Second Amendment rights and opposed to marijuana legalization.

DEMOCRAT — Sam Skardon

  • Background: Clean-energy executive and former congressional aide.
  • Government Investment: Supports targeted tax relief together with public investment in education, healthcare and infrastructure.
  • Business and Economy: Emphasizes small-business lending, economic opportunity and clean-energy initiatives.
  • Education and Opportunity: Supports a larger government role in addressing educational and economic inequality.
  • Social Issues: Supports reproductive rights and legalization of medical and recreational marijuana.

The Choice

Reichenbach emphasizes lower taxes, private-sector discipline and limited government. Skardon favors a larger role for government investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic opportunity. Those differences reinforce the broader contrast between the Wilson and Johnson tickets. Lt Governor
